SAFE  AT SCHOOLS

Child Molesters are the scariest kind of monsters because, unlike most of the boogeymen our children fear, they really do exist.

Three years ago, Megan's Law warned us when a Registered Sexual Predator (Twice convicted of crimes against children) moved into our neighborhood. Quite frankly, we were devastated.  How do we tell our children without terrifying them? We had a neighborhood meeting with our Sheriff to get all the information we needed. He told us all to be vigilant in keeping our kids safe. We printed the photo and hung it on our fridge for our kids to know who he was. We showed our kids his house and told them to stay away.  Our daughter didn't want to sleep upstairs in her room anymore because she was afraid, she would have nightmares, so we installed motion lights and a security system. We did everything that Megan’s Law stands for!

Imagine our surprise when we see this Registered Sexual Predator at our child’s school and there is nothing we can do about it!  What a slap in the face!

We tell our children to beware of this man, but now we have to tell them, well, except at school? This is where we have taught them to respect and trust the adults. They don't think of anyone inside their school as a stranger or someone they cannot trust!

Don't children have the right, first and foremost, to safely receive an education?

This is the letter I wrote to our Board Of Education, Sheriff's Department, Chief of Police, City Council and others.

At the middle school choir concert, my daughter and a few of her friends noticed a man staring at them and then recognized him as a Registered Sexual Predator, sitting in the audience before they went on stage. This made them extremely scared and terribly uncomfortable, which made it difficult to perform.  They should NOT feel this way at a school function!  They should NOT be subjected to his presence! And as parents we feel we shouldn't have to worry about these type of people having access to our children at school!  Please tell me something will be done......

Guess what!  NOTHING will be done, unless, we the people, encourage our legislators to change the way the law is written!

A member of our BOE told a group of parents:  "He is okay, he is a (our school district) grad." Another member told me "As a community we watch out for each other". And "..what this fellow may have done.." MAY HAVE??? - HOW NAIVE!  This man is a PREDATOR!  We can't have people like these board members making up rules as we go along.  We must get this into LAW.

This predator had over 4,000 images of child porn on his computer.  Click here for general explanation.
